On Residents making it places

Residents can't always be counted on to show up places outside of the hospital.  Whether it is a friend's wedding, a dinner date or a prenatal doctor's appointment, if you are married to a resident you might just have to fly solo. Not that we can blame them; it's just how it goes.

Doctor J hasn't been able to make very many of my prenatal doctor's appointments, but he promises to make it to the delivery...or else!!

Last week Doctor J was not going to make it to the doctor's appointment, where I would find out the baby's gender.  This is something we wanted to experience together, so I came up with a plan!

I asked the doctor to write down the gender and put it in an envelope.  I took it straight to Sprinkles Cupcakes (before I could succumb to temptation!).  They offer gender reveal cupcakes where they put pink or blue filling inside the cupcake flavors of your choice.   I picked up the cupcakes the next day and served them for dessert at our New Years Eve dinner.  While driving home with the cupcakes in my passenger seat, I had the urge to shove a cupcake in my mouth at that very minute for two reasons; 1, because I was STARVING and 2, I could hardly wait any longer!  Would anyone notice if I served 11 cupcakes instead of 12?

So how did the big reveal go?  Check back soon for details!

Cute idea! I'm also a doctor's (cardiothoracic surgery fellow) significant other so I know how hard it is to have to deal with their schedule. I actually worked with an ER doc who missed his wife's second delivery because he was at work. After he came back from his short paternity leave, all the staff was harassing him about how horrible that was and how any other doc would have covered for him in a heartbeat. Half the other male docs I worked with delivered their own kids!

That is brilliant.
